‘Tis the season of celebrations, family gatherings, and dinners with friends, and once again this year, we’ve compiled a list of our favorite Italian wines to gift and enjoy over the holidays as a gesture of appreciation for Due Spaghetti’s paid subscribers.
This year’s list includes tried and true wines and a few discoveries that are new to our table. There are reds, whites, and our favorite sparkling, representing wine regions from northern to southern Italy and even the Islands. We have provided background information on each wine, pairing notes, and one or two bottles we recommend for each varietal.
New this year is a Brunello di Montalcino produced by Cerbaia, a winery run by the family whose home we bought in Montalcino. We were happy to find it available at our local liquor store and even on the menu at one of our favorite Minneapolis restaurants, Alma. There’s also Riesci, a Super Tuscan whose name is an act of resistance, and Biancolella, a delightfully light and refreshing wine made on the island of Ischia.
All the wines on the list are good, none are excessively expensive, and all are bottles we drink, gift, and share with others. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
